Agency: Chain + Siman
Client: Grupo Avándaro

The Hotel Avándaro, originally opened in 1958, underwent significant remodeling and expansion, transforming it into a sophisticated blend of tradition and modernity—the renovation aimed to create a luxurious atmosphere while preserving the hotel’s historical charm.

The interior spaces were redesigned to balance iconic architectural features like sloping roofs and wooden beams with modern elements that enhance the guest experience. The design team used natural and locally sourced materials, rich textures, and a warm color palette reflecting Avándaro’s landscape and cultural heritage. The hotel was thoughtfully divided into distinct zones to cater to different types of guests: residents, convention attendees, club members, and general hotel guests. Each zone was designed to meet specific needs while maintaining a cohesive aesthetic throughout the property. Convention spaces were equipped with state-of-the-art technology and modern furnishings, ensuring functionality without sacrificing style. Leisure areas, including guest rooms, lounges, and dining spaces, were designed for tranquility, featuring plush seating, custom-designed furniture, and local artwork. Sustainability was a key focus, with an emphasis on refurbishing existing elements and using locally sourced materials. This approach reduces environmental impact and supports local craftsmanship, adding authenticity to the hotel’s aesthetic. Natural materials like stone, wood, and textiles harmonized with the surrounding landscape, creating a serene atmosphere. Energy-efficient systems, including advanced lighting and HVAC that adapt to real-time occupancy, were installed to reduce energy consumption. Solar panels were added to supplement the hotel's energy needs, projected to generate 321,581 kWh in the first year and covering about 42.6% of the hotel’s annual energy consumption. Domotics played a crucial role in enhancing the guest experience. Guest rooms were equipped with electronic controls for lighting, temperature, and security, accessible via a mobile app. USB type-C ports were installed in outlets, anticipating future technology needs. The clubhouse featured facial recognition systems for user access, and centrally managed audio systems through an iPad, allowing seamless control from the lobby to the restaurant. Water conservation was another priority, with rainwater collection and reuse systems reducing reliance on municipal water supplies, serving as a model for environmental stewardship. The hotel’s expansion and remodeling had a positive impact on the local economy of Avándaro and Valle de Bravo, creating 2,000 direct jobs and 4,000 indirect jobs, boosting the community's economic well-being. This remodeling revitalized a historic establishment and set a benchmark for sustainable and innovative hotel design. The Hotel Avándaro now stands as a model of how thoughtful interior design can enhance guest experiences, promote environmental responsibility, and contribute positively to the community. By blending heritage preservation with modern functionality, the hotel continues to attract a diverse array of guests, boosting local tourism, creating jobs, and preserving Avándaro’s cultural heritage.
