Client: Dino's Famous Chicken
For Dino’s Famous Chicken, the primary project goal was to create a design that could communicate the brand, that could hallmark its history and that could move the experience of Dino’s forward into the future in a simple way. Four sisters, native to Los Angeles, honor their Greek-born family legacy with the updated Dino's Famous Chicken. We developed a simple palette that referenced back to an older version of their tile colors and references a late 60s, early 70s nostalgia in choice of sepia and chartreuse tiles. We augmented the classic, single-story building with a chic breeze block overhang in a mid-century style to complement the vintage marquee signage that harkens back to historic Southern California roadside attractions. Outdoor seating is appointed with classic aluminum patio umbrellas. Two order windows make for a seamless transition from daytime hours to night—indoor seating features booths with swag lighting, and a second street-side window welcomes traffic from the busy sidewalk in the dynamic historic Latino-Byzantine quarter. Neon strip lighting line the eaves with buttery yellow interior tile that creates a warm glow that spills onto the street. Named for their patriarch and nodding to a restaurant steeped in history, Dino’s Famous Chicken family photos, both old and new, hang on the wall and tell a thoughtful family story.
