The Canopy Seychelles Resort, an elegant new resort on the pristine shores of Anse La Mouche in the Seychelles, offers a sophisticated retreat that seamlessly combines luxury with the vibrant cultural essence of its locale. As the site nestled in between two existing residential communities, the design brief called for an architecture and interior design scheme that aimed to work with the needs of the locals to retain its rich sense of local heritage.

The architects focused heavily on habitat preservation, protection and enhancement in the site master planning. With the aim of making the development a hub that benefits the local neighbourhoods and its natural surrounding while providing an immersive experience for visiting guests. The building architecture take inspiration from the practical architectural style of Seychelles’ colonial past, influenced by the climatic conditions and characterized by large double doors and windows combined with pitched roofs. Upon entering the resort, guests are immediately welcomed into a space that exudes warmth and sophistication. The lobby’s interior is characterized by a vibrant colour palette inspired by the island’s landscapes - ranging from the deep terracotta of sun-drenched sands to the vivid blues and greens of the ocean and lush vegetation. This dynamic palette creates a visually stimulating atmosphere that energizes and invigorates. Artworks by local artist George Camille, depicts the daily lives of the Seychellois. The guestrooms themselves are designed with a minimalist elegance, featuring clean lines and a restrained colour scheme that highlights the rich textures and materials used throughout. Central to the guestrooms’ interior design is the bespoke canopy headboard, a signature feature crafted with inspiration drawn from local black pearls and traditional weaving techniques, this headboard serves as a focal point in the rooms, adding a unique and luxurious touch. Combined with custom lighting fixtures, they enhance the sense of opulence and creates a refined ambiance. The all-day dining area embodies the spirit of the Seychelles with a menu inspired by local cuisine. The interior design showcases refreshing colours and ocean views, the materials inspired by sea and sand layers, corals and underwater life. Patterns and tactile inspired by the famous turtles of Seychelles. Textured metal trims, flora and fauna tiles, and soft wood accents create a lively, welcoming atmosphere that reflects the island’s vibrant character. The tropical climate demands materials that can withstand high humidity, intense heat and salt corrosion to ensure longevity and durability. We overcame this by selecting materials specifically engineered to withstand these conditions. Cultural sensitivity is also key to this project; reflecting the local culture in our design required careful research and consultation with local experts to implement and emphasise through forms of artwork and accessories. Sourcing and transporting materials to the remote location was demanding, we streamlined the supply chain and chose locally available materials where possible, reducing costs and logistical hurdles. Through extensive research, contextual references, combined with the Canopy brand identity we were able to create a cohesive design DNA infused into all areas throughout the resort.
